June 14, 2010, Ouray, CO – Volunteers from the Chief Ouray Gun Club spent the day cleaning up and improving the Chief Ouray Gun Range.
Nine volunteers from the Chief Ouray Gun Club spent the day last Saturday cleaning up everyone’s favorite range lane – the “middle” lane. Heavy use and abuse had left the range in poor condition. The club directors thought it high time for some spring cleaning to get the range back in shape for the summer shooting season.
According to club president, Bob Morss, future plans for the range include removal of the shabby old club building, which currently sits on the property, as well as clean up of the range’s other two shooting lanes.
“Today was the best turnout I’ve ever seen for range clean up!” Said Morss. “There’ve been times where it was just me out here. And Craig [MacCraiger] and Ira [Knutson] have been out here cleaning up all by themselves as well. It was great to have such a good turnout today.” All agreed that the range “looked great” when the volunteers were finished.
Recently, the gun club has had new life breathed into it and has lots of great plans on the horizon. The club directors are organizing a gun show, most likely to be held in Ridgway, for the fall of 2010 or spring of 2011, depending on organizational details. The club is working with a veteran gun show organizer from Montrose to get the event put together.
The Chief Ouray Gun Club’s newest director, Gayle Buske, is focusing on women’s only gun training through her own company. Buske is also working on a women’s only shoot and grant through the NRA Women On Target® program, tentatively planned for 2011.
The Chief Ouray Gun Club is a members-only group and welcomes new members. Dues are a mere $35 per year per family. For membership information, contact Craig MacCraiger at 325.4551. If you are already a member, we invite you to check out the range and enjoy the shooting sports locally. If you’re not a member, we welcome you to join us.
